RETIRO ~ PARLAMENTO MULTIESPECIES is a composition based on environmental sound recordings made in the El Retiro park in the spring of 2020, while it was closed to the public during the first COVID-19 lockdown. The piece focuses on the voices and aural expressions of the other (non-human) species that inhabit this location within the city. In the brief period when those voices became more audible, the activities of the human neighbours were still hearable in the background. The work invites us to consider a notion of community beyond the human.
Composed during a residency at the Académie de France à Madrid, Casa de Velázquez. Artistic research residency exchange program between Casa de Velázquez (Madrid) and Hangar (Barcelona), supported by the Institut français Barcelona.Fieldwork and production assistance: Palma E.
